Youngsters may get City chance- Heeley

MANAGER Carl Heeley has hinted some of his Worcester City youngsters could get a chance to stake their claim for a starting berth, but only if the time is right.

The Blue & Whites’ season is seven games away from its end – six league games and a Worcestershire Senior Cup final – but the City boss believes his side have still got plenty to play for.

Academy prospects Dean Waldron, James Lemon and Joao Sousa have all made the breakthrough into the squad of 16 in recent weeks and more could be set to follow.

“We have got a lot to play for,” Heeley said. “We have still got aspirations of finishing as high up the league as we can but if the time is right to blood a few of the academy lads and give them some experience then we will do it.

“But it has to be for the good of the team, it has to be to try and give a positive impact on what we are trying to achieve and that is more points.”

And those chances may be enhanced with Heeley seemingly consigned to losing Connor Gater and Danny Jackman for the rest of the season.

“It is a bit worrying, Connor’s had a scan and it is a bit inconclusive.”

Worcester’s manager added. “It is settling down but not to the point where he is fit.

“Considering we have got about four weeks to go, it is starting to get a bit questionable. I hope so (return before the end of the season), but I don’t know.”
