FATEH Singh took three late wickets as Worcestershire Rapids secured a crucial 15-run victory against Glamorgan in the T20 Blast.

Singh took two wickets in the 16th over and then claimed the final scalp of the Glamorgan innings at Sophia Gardens.

That came after Gareth Roderick’s half-century helped the Rapids close on 161-9 at the end of their 20 overs – a total which the visitors were able to defend.

The result keeps Worcestershire’s qualification hopes for the knockout stages alive with the Rapids third in the Central and West Group standings.

Worcestershire won the toss and elected to bat only to lose Isaac Mohammed (8) five balls into the innings.

And fellow opener Kashif Ali (5) also fell cheaply although Roderick (71) punished the Glamorgan attack.

Roderick lacked support at the crease with only Tom Taylor (19) and Adam Hose (16) managing more than 15 runs from the away side’s remaining batters.

The Rapids recovered from 93-5 to reach 161-9 as Roderick departed in the 15th over after hitting 10 boundaries in a bruising 43-ball knock.

Glamorgan made a steady start in reply before Taylor (1-24) removed Kiran Carlson (14).

And Beyers Swanepoel (3-36) then accounted for both Will Smale (15) and Asa Tribe (0) in consecutive balls in the fifth over.

Ben Kellaway (43) top scored for the home side before he was run out by substitute fielder Jake Libby to leave Glamorgan on 100-5.

The wickets continued to tumble as Usama Mir (2-17) accounted for James Neesham (8) while Singh (3-17) bowled Chris Cooke (14).

Singh returned to bowl Dan Douthwaite (4) while Swanepoel claimed his third wicket with the scalp of Nathan McAndrew (13).

And with Glamorgan in need of 16 runs for victory in the final over, Singh had Mason Crane (2) caught as the Rapids claimed a crucial victory.

Worcestershire continue their T20 Blast campaign against Gloucestershire on Friday, July 10 with play to begin at 5.30pm at New Road.
