PROLIFIC opener Jake Libby has signed a new four-year deal, keeping him at New Road until the end of 2027.

Libby is targeting trophies and becoming established in Division One of the County Championship during the next phase of his career.

Since his move from Nottinghamshire in 2019, Libby has been a cornerstone of Worcestershire’s batting lineup.

He has amassed more first-class runs than any other player in the country – a staggering 3,414.

His exceptional form includes a personal best of 1,153 runs last season, averaging 57.65, with four centuries and five fifties.

Libby highlighted the talent in the squad and the chance to skipper the side in the Royal London One Day Cup as key motivators.

He said:

“We’ve got a great squad, and I’m excited about the challenges of next season and beyond.

“There’s no reason why we can’t compete for, and win, trophies – that’s what excites me the most.”

Since the COVID-shortened 2020 season, Libby has averaged more than 50, demonstrating his leadership and consistency.

He emphasised his role as a senior player and his commitment to supporting captain Brett D’Oliveira in steering the team to new heights.

Worcestershire CEO, Ashley Giles, echoed Libby’s enthusiasm. He said:

“Securing Jake for another four years is fantastic for the club.

“His consistency and leadership have been instrumental in our recent successes. He will undoubtedly be a key figure in our pursuit of Division One triumphs.”
