Wolves hoping to seal James' 100th win

WORCESTER Wolves will be looking to start the New Year in winning style and secure director of basketball Paul James’ 100th victory in charge when they return to action this weekend.

BBL Championship leaders Wolves travel to Manchester Giants on Sunday (January 5, 5pm) looking to make it six wins out of six and clinch an impressive milestone for the coach, who is now in his fifth year at the club after joining in 2009.

Win number 99 for James came last weekend when his high-flying team beat Birmingham Knights to ensure top-spot going into 2014.

And his latest signing, Kai Williams, said securing 100 wins for their coach would be an achievement the players would be proud of doing.

“Being part of a coach’s milestone like a 100th victory is something I believe our team will take great pride in,” he said.

“Everyone on this team and involved with the club has a great deal of respect for coach James.

“Paul James is one of the best coaches I have played for and it would be great to be a part of his 100th victory whenever that may take place this season.”

The last time the sides met was in November when Wolves ran out 118-102 winners – the match which started their current five-game winning run.

Despite being placed third from bottom with just five wins out of 16, Williams is wary of the threat they can cause to opposing sides.

“Manchester are a very good team even though they may have had their struggles this season,” he added.

“They have a balanced team and players like James Jones, Rob Marsden and David Aliu have been playing just as good as anyone in the league.

“This will be a very tough game for us as they are very tough to beat at home. We are expecting a tough battle for our first game in the New Year.”
