Wolves extend perfect record

WORCESTER Wolves maintained their one hundred per cent winning start to the British Basketball League campaign after cruising to a convincing win over Midlands rivals Birmingham Knights.

Paul James’ side followed up an impressive cup win against Manchester Giants on Friday night by making it five wins out of five in the BBL Championship with a faultless 100-59 victory.

The home side received a huge blow before tip-off when free-scoring American guard Brent Benson was ruled out of the match.

And his absence certainly had an affect on his team mates as the Knights were unable to hold back an explosion of early scoring from a confident and sharp Wolves side.

Will Creekmore and Zaire Taylor took the game to the BBL newcomers as Wolves dominated the first quarter leading 29-11.

Wolves’ domination continued in the second period as their lead accelerated to 47-24 at the halfway stage.

The onslaught continued in the second half as Woves seeked an emphatic win at the North Solihull Sports Centre. Wolves’ Calvin Morant-Hudson hit three baskets and Jamal Williams floated home a double of three-pointers to put the match out of Birmingham’s reach.

Leading 78-43, Wolves refused to drop the pace of their scoring and Taylor continued his fine form with some fluent moves to the basket and a neat pass for Wolves’ new man Andreas Schreiber to score.

With just a few seconds remaining the visitors sealed their 100 points tally when Taylor broke clear from the Knights’ defence and rammed home another close range basket.

Wolves return to action this Friday (October 25) when they travel up north to face second placed Newcastle Eagles looking to make it six league wins out of six.
