Wolves chase seventh straight win

WORCESTER Wolves will be looking to maintain their BBL title challenge by securing a seventh straight win when they take on the Sheffield Sharks tonight (Friday) at the University of Worcester Arena.

Paul James’ men are sweating on the fitness of Robert Thurman who suffered a recurrence of an ankle injury in Sunday’s BBL Trophy win over Durham Wildcats.

However head coach James has tipped new signing Dejan Radojevic to fill the void left by Thurman’s potential absence after the Serbian impressed in Sunday’s win.

“There’s a possibility that Robert will play some part of the game and we’ll just monitor it,” he said.

“But right now, obviously with Dejan being here and playing very well on Sunday against Durham with 20 points and eight rebounds, we’ve got somebody who’s of quality and can replace Robert.

Speaking about Radojevic, James added: “You can expect to see someone who’s a solid basketball player. He’s a big body and he can score inside and out. Right now, he’s just trying to get used to the speed and the tempo of the British game because he’s not used to the pace.

“On Saturday, against Bristol, he struggled a little bit, but he learned on Sunday and had 20 points and eight rebounds to his name and hopefully he’s going to move on from there.”

The Sharks have been in mixed form of late, recovering from three straight losses to win each of their last two games, but James believes they are capable of snatching a shock victory on Friday.

“They’re a good team – they’re a solid team,” he added.

“They’ve been a little bit erratic in their performances this season but on their day they can beat anybody; they’re a threat.

“Last time we played them we weren’t at our greatest. It was one of those games where we had to tough it out and managed to find a way to win.

“But, hopefully, this time around with the addition of the new players we have, it should make life a little bit easier for us.”

Tonight’s match tips off at 7.30pm.
