WORCESTER Wolves are just one win away from winning another major trophy after they secured a place in the BBL Playoffs final with victory against the Sheffield Sharks over two legs.

Paul James’s side will take on league champions Newcastle Eagles in the British Basketball’s end-of-season showcase event at Wembley Arena on Sunday (May 11). It is the second time the club have reached a major final this season following their BBL Trophy success in March.

The bulk of the achievement was done on Friday when Wolves beat Sheffield 79-59 away from home in the first leg. It meant they had a significant 20 point advantage going into yesterday’s (Sunday) second leg at the University of Worcester Arena.

Despite a brief scare in the first half, Wolves pulled themselves together to close out a 67-60 win on the night which followed jubilant scenes on the court in front of a packed crowd.

A delighted director of basketball Paul James said reaching their second major final within six weeks was a great achievement.

“We came to the game trying to forget about our twenty-point first leg lead, but played horribly early on,” he said.

“But we settled down and came back as we know we can.

“It’s unbelievable to be going to Wembley and I’m thrilled for everyone involved with the club that we have made it through to another final.”
