WORCESTER City defender George Williams has joined League One outfit Barnsley for an ‘undisclosed fee’.

The talented full-back put pen to paper today (Monday) on an 18-month contract which will see Williams ply his trade at Oakwell until June 30, 2016.

“It hasn’t really sunk in to be honest,” Williams said. “I am absolutely delighted to be here.

“I only heard about the interest a couple of days ago and now I am here, so it has been a bit of a whirlwind.”

The 21-year-old spent two years as a youth with MK Dons before leaving for Loughborough University to play in the Midland Alliance League and then went on to join the Blue and Whites at the start of the last campaign.

City’s players’ player and supporters’ player of the year has been an integral part of the team which survived against the odds last season and have got to within touching distance of a Conference North play-off place this time around.

“I would like to thank everyone who helped me at Worcester,” Williams added. “They are a good team and are going places.

“I am only 21 so still quite young. I am eager and determined.

“I would like to think I can provide assists by going forward. I am really looking forward to working hard on the training ground and pushing myself to get a start in the team.”
