Wasps starlet Howe to join Warriors next season

WARRIORS have signed Wasps academy starlet Tom Howe ahead of the 2017/18 campaign.

The 21-year-old winger, who will be part of the senior squad at Sixways when he joins in the summer, has been a regular through the England age-groups in recent seasons, having helped the under-20s to the Junior World Championship title last year.

Howe has made 13 appearances for Wasps and crossed the whitewash on two occasions – one of which came against Warriors in November’s Anglo-Welsh Cup encounter at the Ricoh Arena.

His performance in that clash saw him shortlisted for the competition’s ‘Breakthrough Award’ alongside Warriors’ Josh Adams.

The youngster also impressed at the 2016 Singha Premiership Sevens, where he scored in the final as Wasps won the tournament.

Born in Milton Keynes, Howe cut his teeth at Beaconsfield RFC and has enjoyed loan spells at Championship side Jersey Reds and National League One outfit Coventry Rugby.

“I’d like to thank Wasps for the opportunities they’ve given me during my time in their academy, but I’m now looking forward to a new chapter,” said Howe.

“Worcester is clearly a place where young players are given the support they need to be able to make steps in the right direction as a rugby player.

“From outside, you see the likes of Jamie Shillcock, Josh Adams and others getting chances in the Premiership and excelling, and it’s something that has appealed to me.

“I’m looking forward to joining in the summer and hopefully I can make the same progress as some of those young guys and compete for a place in the first-team,” he added.

Director of Rugby Gary Gold said: “Tom is a hungry, young player who will add further depth to our options in the back three.

“He has shone for Wasps when presented with the opportunity and hopefully he can use the resources around him at Sixways to flourish as a player.”

The signing is Warriors’ third in the last week, having recruited lock Pierce Phillips and tighthead prop Simon Kerrod from Jersey Reds ahead of next season.
