Warriors suffer injury setbacks

WORCESTER Warriors have been dealt a double blow as Leonardo Senatore and Dean Hammond look set to face lengthy spells on the sidelines.

Number eight Senatore was stretchered off the field at The Stoop on Saturday after dislocating his shoulder, while Hammond sustained a torn hamstring.

The South African-born wing lasted the full 80 minutes as Warriors went on to suffer a 21-20 defeat to Harlequins, but director of rugby Dean Ryan revealed Hammond played the latter stages while carrying the injury.

The pair will join an increasingly long list of players receiving treatment at Warriors and Ryan said that was a result of the effort his side were putting in to stay in the Aviva Premiership.

“We are short in ability when you compare us to a Northampton, Leicester and Harlequins and that’s fact, so if a small group like ours don’t work to the maximum then we just fall off a cliff,” he said.

“It is tough to be at that level every week as we are working so hard and you could see that against Quins.

“But we are not after sympathy. We need a win and I don’t care if it is the ugliest win I have ever seen, but if we can get four points in our back pocket I think we will get something out of this season.

“If we don’t then all the pressure will sit on us and it is difficult to keep dealing with that.

“We lost a couple of players. Leonardo went off with a dislocated shoulder and Dean played the last ten minutes with a torn hamstring.

“That was up against one of the fastest back threes I’ve ever seen, so we’re hurting a little bit.”

Ryan said his players will now be looking to rest up ahead of their return to league action on Friday, March 21 when they take on London Wasps in a crucial clash at Sixways.

“Our boys have got a few days off this week and it has come at the right time,”

he said.

“Anyone watching Saturday’s game can see how much pressure we were under physically, so rest is important.

“We can then come back and throw everything at Wasps and see if we can get a win.”
