HEAD coach Carl Hogg has hailed the new signing of Super Rugby scrum-half Michael Dowsett as a great benefit to his young squad.

The English-qualified half-back arrives at Sixways following the recent announcement of scrum-half Francois Hougaard being out of action for three months, after suffering a shoulder injury on international duty with South Africa.

The exciting 24-year-old joins from Australian Super Rugby side ACT Brumbies, where he spent three seasons with the Canberra-based side, with the latest coming in this year’s Super Rugby campaign.

A competent kicker with both feet, the Aussie has learnt his craft under the guidance of Wallabies legends Stephen Larkham and George Gregan, while also having been mentored by Nic White at the Brumbies.

Dowsett recently featured for New Zealand outfit Southland in their Mitre 10 Cup competition and also counts Canberra Vikings and New South Wales Country Eagles as former clubs.

“I can’t wait to join up with my new teammates and to get out on the field and show what I can do,” said Dowsett.

“Worcester are ambitious as I am myself, so I want to showcase what I’ve got and try and help push this club to where it wants to be,” he added.

Hogg said: “Obviously we were really disappointed to lose Francois Hougaard for a lengthy period of time, but we’re delighted to capture someone of Michael’s quality.

“He is a young, hungry player who will provide stiff competition for the scrum-half jersey. His experience playing in one of Super Rugby’s best teams and alongside a host of Wallaby internationals, will only be of great benefit to our young squad.”
