Warriors face European trips to France and Ireland

Worcester Editorial 14th Jun, 2017   0

WARRIORS have been drawn against French sides Brive and Oyonnax and Irish outfit Connacht in the 2017/18 European Challenge Cup.

Director of rugby Gary Gold will see his side take on their Pool 5 opponents across six games in October, December and January, with this year’s final being held in Bilbao, Spain, in May.

Worcester will be looking for revenge against Brive after suffering two defeats to the French side in last season’s pool stages and could come up against former Warriors James Johnston and Na’ama Leleimalefaga, who both joined Brive this summer.

Connacht will also provide Warriors with stiff competition after dropping down into the Challenge Cup. The Irish side finished eighth in the Guinness PRO12 last season but won their domestic competition in 2016.

Worcester will also come up against an Oyonnax side that are back in the competition after winning France’s second tier Pro D2 title last season.

The sides battled out a 9-9 draw in France before Warriors claimed a 20-13 victory at Sixways when the sides were in the same pool in the 2013/14 campaign.

Fixture dates for Warriors’ European campaign are yet to be announced.
