CANADA fly-half Connor Braid has joined Warriors until the end of the season to provide more competition in the number ten role.

Following recent injuries to the Sixways outfit’s first-team fly-halfs Ryan Lamb and Tom Heathcote, head coach Carl Hogg has swooped in to enlist the experienced 26-year-old to fill the vacancy, which is currently being held by youngster Jamie Shillcock.

The versatile back, who can also play in the centre or the back three, will join up with the squad following Canada’s match with Samoa this Friday.

Born in Victoria, Braid has bagged 21 caps for his country, with his latest coming last Saturday in Canada’s 21-16 defeat to Romania in Bucharest.

An able goal-kicker, Braid has also featured for Canada on the World Sevens circuit and already has experience playing in the UK after a seven-game spell with Glasgow Warriors during the 2014/15 Guinness Pro 12 season.

The stand-off also spent time on loan at London Scottish and counts Doncaster Knights as a former club.

Rising through the ranks with British Colombia clubs James Bay AA and BC Bears, the fly-half won a Bronze medal with Canada in the Rugby Sevens at the World Games 2013, in Colombia.

Braid said: “I’m thrilled to be joining Worcester and I can’t wait to get out on the pitch and show what I can do.”

Hogg said: “With recent injuries to Ryan Lamb and Tom Heathcote, we’re delighted Connor is able to come in and bolster the side in the number ten position.

“He has plenty of experience in goal-kicking, while his versatility across the backline will also be of great benefit.”
