Warriors aim for club record victory

A CLUB record which has lasted for more than ten years could be broken tomorrow (Saturday, 12.35pm) if Worcester Warriors defeat Rotherham Titans at Sixways.

In the 2003/2004 season, Warriors went on a run of 20 straight wins in the second tier of English rugby to secure promotion to the top flight.

However, this record sequence could be bettered by Worcester who have won every game in the Greene King IPA Championship and British & Irish Cup since their loss to Bristol on the opening day of the season.

Director of rugby Dean Ryan has brought Dean Hammond and Jonny Arr back for the clash which will see Warriors play in their limited-edition pink shirts for their annual Acorns Charity Matchday.

These are the only two changes to the squad which hammered Nottingham 58-3 last weekend, while one of the most notable alterations to the starting line-up sees Ben Howard replace Chris Pennell at full back.

Last week’s potent backline of Max Stelling, Andy Symons, Tom Biggs and Ryan Mills retain their places while the forward pack is completely unchanged.

Hooker Agustin Creevy and Nick Schonert are among the replacements along with former Rotherham captain Charlie Mulchrone.

Ryan, whose side thrashed Rotherham 47-7 earlier this season, said: “We’re trying to take a group of ambitious youngsters who grab their opportunity.

“We’ll keep pushing players so that when we get to the point where we have to select our best 15, we’re pretty confident that everyone has had a chance to push hard to be in it.

“Rotherham have got some decent organisation around some of the things they do and that goes back to a year ago when we played them in pre-season and they put us under some stress.

“They’ve struggled with certain aspects, specifically around drive so they’ve been trying to work their way out of those and it’ll be a different challenge for us again this weekend.”

Warriors’ side to face Rotherham: Howard, Hammond, Stelling, Symons, Biggs, Mills, Arr, Bower, Annett, Rees, Williams, Thomas, Senatore, Betty, Van Velze (C)

Replacements: Creevy, Rapava Ruskin, Schonert, O’Shea, Mulchrone, Mieres, Fatiaki
