WORCESTER Wanderers failed to recover from a disastrous start at Old Bath Road on Saturday as Redingensians Rams powered to an emphatic 50-15 win.
George Owen completed his hat-trick inside the opening half an hour as Rams, who are second in National Three South West, quickly bagged a four-try bonus point.
Wanderers hit back with a Tom Dodge brace and a try from Tim Ohlson, but the Berkshire side finished strongly to ease to an eight-try victory.
Stuart James’ men would have hoping to bounce back after they were cruelly denied victory in the final play of their game against Brixham last Saturday.
But the last-gasp defeat appears to have knocked the stuffing out of Wanderers who struggled to live with Redingensians in the early stages.
The hosts set the tone with a try inside the opening two minutes from Owen before Steve Bryant crossed the whitewash ten minutes later.
Owen then added two more tries to seal his hat-trick and leave Worcester trailing 26-0 with just over a quarter of the game gone.
Dodge got the visitors off the mark with a try, but Rams racked up a healthy 38-5 lead at half time thanks to a quick-fire double from Josh Smith.
Despite the deficit, Wanderers dug deep and responded with two tries from Dodge and Ohlson. But they could not add a fourth which would have secured them at least a losing bonus point as Redingensians reached their half century following tries from Andrew Amor and Bryant late on.
Meanwhile, a hat trick from Max Macfarlane helped Upton chalk up their first win of 2014 as they secured a 36-24 victory over Manor Park.
The Worcestershire outfit, who had not played at home since December 7 due to the recent bad weather, also scored tries through Alex Pimlow and Stu Brooks.
