Wanderers crash back down to earth

Worcester Editorial 6th Nov, 2013 Updated: 19th Oct, 2016   0

AFTER the high of stunning second placed Old Redcliffians last week, Worcester Wanderers experienced the lows of a crushing 33-0 defeat at Brixham on Saturday.

While Wanderers were looking to build on their impressive 13-9 victory over Old Reds, Brixham were determined to erase the memory of last Saturday’s 58-0 loss to Bracknell.

And it was the hosts who had the bit between their teeth as they raced into a 13-0 lead, with Jamie Shone scoring the opening try before Worcester finally got hold of the ball.

A turnover saw Wanderers attack from deep but the visitors twice squandered chances to close the gap, with Tom Dodge failing to find the final scoring pass.

Meanwhile, Brixham moved further in front before the break as Andy Sandercock’s penalty was followed by a try from Russ Morris to give his side a 23-0 advantage.

Things did not improve for Stuart James’ men in the second period as the home side added two further tries to wrap up the bonus point.

Firstly, Chey Bryce went over in the corner before Jonny Brown crossed the whitewash after good work from Alun Glanville.

Despite the 33-0 deficit, Worcester, who were boosted by the return of Tom Biggs following his long injury absence, battled away and put together periods of sustained pressure.

But they could not get off the mark as a try was disallowed for a forward pass, while Brixham defended superbly to see out time.
