THE Worcestershire Walking Football League (WWFL) has secured a sponsor for the remainder of the current season.

A micropub in Worcester – the Cocky Anchor – will sponsor the league until its conclusion in June next summer.

The sponsorship deal marks a significant milestone for the WWFL with the league keen to support healthy, active lifestyles among the county’s walking football enthusiasts.

Many local teams along with the league’s committee frequent the micropub and the Cocky Anchor’s support will enable the league to expand its reach.

The sponsorship will help fund events, tournaments, awards and equipment throughout the season.

WWFL chairman, Tim Evans said: “We are thrilled to welcome Cocky Anchor, Worcester as our official sponsor.

“Their commitment to supporting the league perfectly aligns with our profile and player base.

“We look forward to a successful partnership that will bring lasting benefits to both organisations, teams and players.”

In addition to the sponsorship deal, the league and committee will involve the Cocky Anchor, Worcester in a range of activities.

This includes matchday events along with a number of schemes in the future.

As part of the deal, the league has been renamed as the Cocky Anchor, Worcester WWFL.

Walking football targets men over the age of 50-years-old and also women over the age of 40-year-old.

And the aim of the WWFL is to promote and encourage walking football throughout the county by providing local clubs with opportunities to compete regularly.

Participating clubs include Worcester City, Worcester Amblers, Evesham United, Hindlip WFC, Sporting Club Inkberrow, Droitwich Vets, Alcester Town, Hartshill Strollers, Solihull Moors, South Birmingham Galacticos, Bishops Cleeve and many more.

The WWFL season runs from September 2025 through to June 2026, with matches scheduled three times a month on Sunday afternoons.

Games take place at Sixways Stadium and Claines Lane in Worcester and also at Evesham United’s Spiers and Hartwell Stadium ground.

The league also hope to arrange meet-ups between players before and after games to expand the social dimension of the WWFL.
