Vuna is here to stay - Ryan

FEARS Cooper Vuna could leave Worcester Warriors in the summer have been quashed by director of rugby Dean Ryan.

The livewire wing’s future at the club looked uncertain when head coach Carl Hogg revealed Vuna had only signed until the end of the season.

The 27-year-old has made five appearances since joining from Japanese outfit Toshiba Brave Lupus in March and Hogg said they were working on extending his Sixways stay.

But Ryan said: “We are keeping him. Cooper Vuna is here for the foreseeable future over the next year and the year after, so there isn’t a debate.”

Exciting back Bryce Heem is among a number of players to have agreed to join Warriors for the 2015/16 campaign and Ryan insisted there were no ‘get out’ clauses in any of his new signings’ contracts if they do not get promoted to the Aviva Premiership this year.

“Bryce Heem is well aware of the situation and we wouldn’t have signed him if it was anything else,” Ryan added.

“We have got no celebrity signings with conditions. Bryce has been as engaging as anybody about committing and playing his part whatever it ends up.”

Meanwhile, Warriors are hopeful of getting Dan George back fit after the experienced hooker suffered a knee injury in last month’s clash against Yorkshire Carnegie.

“He has done some damage to an MCL (Medial Collateral Ligament), but he will hopefully be back for the play-offs, so it is not as serious as we first feared,” Ryan added.
