Vuna set to be unleashed against London Scottish

EXCITING wing Cooper Vuna will be looking to reignite Worcester Warriors’ promotion push when he makes his debut against London Scottish tomorrow (Saturday, 3pm).

The Australia international, who joined Worcester from Toshiba Brave Lupus earlier this month, was due to make his first appearance for the club against Plymouth Albion.

An ankle injury picked up in training cruelly denied him his chance, but he has not had to wait long to get his next opportunity to impress as director of rugby Dean Ryan has given him a starting place.

Vuna is also one of four changes to the 15 which slipped to a narrow defeat at Jersey last week, with Ryan Lamb notably returning at fly half.

The former Gloucester and Leicester Tigers stand off, who has not featured since January due to injury, replaces Ryan Mills who has been named among the replacements.

The forward pack remains unchanged apart from Argentina international Leonardo Senatore who replaces Sam Lewis in the back-row, which contains newly-re-signed flanker Sam Betty.

Worcester’s 23-21 loss in Jersey not only ended their 24-match winning run but also saw Bristol reclaim top spot in the Greene King IPA Championship.

And Ryan said it was important that his side returned to winning ways and created some momentum heading into the promotion play-offs.

“London Scottish are a good side who are building well and they look like a serious threat for the play-offs,” Ryan said.

“They’ll be looking at creating a really difficult environment at their ground come May and seeing if they can get something out of that and then everything is up for grabs.

“We’ve been in cup final situations pretty much every other weekend. That deserves some credit for us to be able to work our way through those situations in tough weather conditions.

“In the Championship you play against sides who know the competition and you don’t know it. It’s a tough challenge and if there’s mitigating factors around the result and what can influence it, so it’s always going to be tough.”

Warriors’ side to face London Scottish: Pennell, Smith, Stelling, Symons, Vuna, Lamb, Arr, Bower, Annett, Schonert, Williams, Thomas, Senatore, Betty, Van Velze

Replacements: Creevy, Rapava Ruskin, Rees, O’Shea, Mulchrone, Mills, Howard
