BACKS coach Sam Vesty expects Warriors to up their game in the crucial away leg of their European Challenge Cup match against Newport Gwent Dragons on Friday night.
Vesty insisted if his young squad can be clinical and aggressive on their visit to Rodney Parade, they will be a formidable unit.
Warriors sit third in Pool C on seven points after three rounds, with their Welsh opponents two points below them in fourth, and with Enisei-STM and Brive only two points above the Sixways outfit, Vesty knows the wide open group is there for the taking.
“That’s testament to the youngsters who have taken their opportunities in this competition. It’s a great tool for us going forward,” said the former England international.
“As well as squad growth we obviously want to win too. Those couple of games against Enisei-STM and Brive hurt us. We now have the chance to make it two wins over Newport which would really put us back in contention.
“We expect another contest full of energy. We just need to make sure were clinical and aggressive, as we know Newport can cause us problems if given the chance. But it’s a wide open group now and I believe we can progress.
“We’ve improved slightly in each game so far and have been more clear-headed in key moments of matches. We know can be a formidable unit, so I’m looking forward to seeing us go out and improve our game again.
“We’ve had a big focus on us as a team recently, so whatever side Newport bring, we’ll make sure we do our bits right. I expect us to play better than we have done already in this tournament, as we’ve learnt some key lessons.
“We’re not looking too far ahead, but I think we can still qualify. Everyone just has to do their bit to make sure we get over the line on Friday.”
Warriors take on Newport this Friday at Rodney Parade (Kick-off 7.30pm).
