VALKYRIES’ Rochelle Clark helped England Women qualify for the 2017 Women’s Rugby World Cup semi-finals with a 47-26 victory over the USA in Ireland.

The veteran prop came on in the second-half as the Red Roses finished the pool stage with three wins from three, with a dominant 159 points scored.

Simon Middleton’s side play France on Tuesday night at the Kingspan Stadium, Belfast.

Valkyries’ Shona Powell-Hughes and Dyddgu Hywel are part of the Wales squad that face Canada in the fifth-place semi-final on Tuesday at Queen’s University, Belfast.

Elsewhere, Warriors scrum-half Francois Hougaard came off the bench as South Africa got their 2017 Rugby Championship campaign off to a winning start, with a 37-15 victory against Argentina in Port Elizabeth on Saturday.

Hougaard made his 43rd appearance for the Springboks, who head to Salta for the return fixture this Saturday.

Also in South Africa, four of Warriors’ academy youngsters were part of the England under-18s squad who finished their summer tour with a 52-22 victory over South Africa Schools in Cape Town.

Academy pair Nick Rigby and Nick David were both on the scoresheet in the commanding victory, whilst James Scott and Beck Cutting were also part of the squad.
