WORCESTER Wolves’ director of basketball Paul James has said Friday’s (February 28) hugely anticipated top of the table clash against Newcastle Eagles could prove to be the defining moment of their season.
Wolves go into the crunch match at the University of Worcester Arena sitting pretty at the top of the BBL Championship having won 14 games in a row in all competitions and know victory on Friday would see them significantly close in on the title.
Should both teams finish the league with equal records, then the head-to-head league record between them will decide the final placings.
Two of the three league games have already been played. Back in October, Wolves ran out 80-71 winners, while a month later they succumbed to an 86-74 defeat after overtime.
And Wolves go into the clash with winning momentum over their next opponents following their victory against them in last weekend’s BBL Trophy quarter-final clash.
James hopes a big crowd can cheer his team on to what could prove to be the club’s biggest win in their history.
“It could be the defining moment of the season,” he said. “Whoever wins will probably be the favourite to go on and win the league.
“Anyone who has already been to see us play at the Arena needs to get down there again on Friday. If they’ve got friends who haven’t already been, then they need to bring them along as well.”
