The Craig Gillies Column: Discipline will be key in final

Worcester Editorial 14th May, 2015 Updated: 19th Oct, 2016   0

THE WHOLE season comes down to these next two games. It has been what they have been working for since last summer.

I don’t think it really matters that they have not beaten Bristol in the regular season because when it comes down to these two games it is going to be all out war.

Discipline was a factor in the second game and it has cost Worcester dear in recent weeks. It is difficult enough in top level competition to play ten minutes with 14 players, but when you are playing 20 minutes or 30 minutes or even a period with 13 players you are going to be really tested.

It is a delicate line to tread as you want the players to be fighting for everything and living right on the edge. But obviously you have got to walk that line very carefully.

As much as it pains me to say it once you have got a bit of a reputation for giving away penalties and getting cards referees do scrutinise you a bit more and all of sudden things which are boarder line you are ending up on the wrong side of.

So they are going to have to be very aware of their discipline and I think it will be a key factor going into these two final games.

The mindset will be interesting for the final, especially as Bristol have opted to play at home first. Personally I would rather go away first and then come back to your home fans knowing what you need to do.

I would guess Bristol would be drawing on those experiences of losing to Exeter and London Welsh and probably feel this is third time lucky.

But from Warriors point of view they just need to focus on one game at a time. They need to go down there, keep it as tight as possible, get as many points as they can and then bring it back to Sixways and finish the job off.
