WORCESTER Wolves’ Zaire Taylor has been named the Molten BBL Player of the Month for December after an impressive run of performances.

The playmaker, who signed from Leicester Riders in the summer, played a key part in Wolves’ success towards the end of 2013 which saw them win all their four matches in December as they stepped up their chase for the BBL Championship title.

Wolves currently sit top of the table two points clear of second placed Leicester Riders who have two games in hand over the leaders.

Taylor becomes the club’s second player to win the Player of the Month award this season after Will Creekmore was recognised for his early season efforts in October.

Taylor’s creativity on the court helped him secure the award after dishing out an impressive 36 assists during the club’s four wins against Durham Wildcats, Surrey united, London Lions and Birmingham Knights.

The in-form star also sat second in the steals table for December, averaging 3.3 each time he stepped out onto the court and also averaged 12.7 points per game.

Another impressive performance on Sunday against the Manchester Giants also earned Taylor a place in the BBL Team of the Week for the fifth time this season.

Worcester Wolves director of basketball Paul James was full of praise for his summer signing.

“Zaire is a delight to coach and he has an uncanny vision for the game,” he said.

“As well as being capable of getting his own points, he has the ability to raise the play of others. In our last game against Manchester Giants he placed the ball perfectly into Will’s (Creekmore) hands for scores on three successive occasions.

“And that’s without mentioning all the times he steals the ball off our opponents. They must hate playing against him.”
