SEVERN Stars have announced a squad packed with international and emerging talent for the 2018 Vitality Netball Superleague.
The University of Worcester Arena franchise, who finished eighth in their debut season earlier this year, have revealed their 15-player roster ahead of February’s Superleague campaign, with nine new faces joining the club.
Prolific goal scorer Ellie Cardwell and University of Worcester student Jodie Gibson, who have both been selected for England’s three-match International Series against Malawi this month, have re-signed following last season’s eye-catching performances.
Laura Malcolm returns to captain the side for a second season, along with mid-courter Sophie Carter and fans’ favourite Becky Oatley, whilst England under-21 wing attack/centre Iona Darroch also returns to the team.
New additions include Samantha Cook, Rosie Allison, Ella Powell Davies, Laura Rudland and Shona O’Dwyer, who all carry Superleague experience having previously played for Team Bath.
Amanda Davis joins the side from Surrey Storm and Dominique Ford-Gordon makes the short trip south from Wasps.
South Africa internationals Maryka Holtzhausen and Phumza Maweni complete the 15-player squad.
Head coach Sam Bird said: “We’re excited to see what the players selected can do this season. We have competition for every place in the team and the work ethic of the squad is excellent.
“We also have a good mix of experienced England, ex-England and current international players. Alongside them we’re developing young players in line with our mission to secure a top four play-off spot, but also to nurture players for the future.”
Stars kick-off the new Superleague season against Manchester Thunder at the University of Worcester Arena on Saturday, February 10 (tip-off 6pm).
