SEVERN Stars have been selected to take part in the inaugural British Fast5 All-Stars Championship at The O2 in London this autumn.
The University of Worcester Arena franchise will take on seven of the UK’s top teams in the showpiece competition on Saturday, September 23.
Run by Matchroom Sport, the event will see eight five-player sides competing in a double elimination group stage for a spot in the semi-finals, with the eventual winners taking home £25,000.
It will also include a double-point Power Play, a five-point line, 12-minute matches and will allow teams to select two international All-Star players in their squad.
Joining Stars in the new tournament are Vitality Netball Superleague sides Loughborough Lightning, Wasps Netball, Manchester Thunder, Surrey Storm and Team Bath, with two more clubs yet to be confirmed.
Stars director of netball Pamela Cookey said: “This is an exciting new venture and we’re delighted to be part of it. It’s set to bring razzmatazz and will showcase a different take on our sport. It’s also a perfect lead into next season and shows the wonderful growth of netball in Britain.”
Barry Hearn, chairman of Matchroom Sport, said: “As one of the Superleague’s newest teams, it’s to Severn Stars’ credit they have managed to qualify for the British Fast5 All-Stars Championship in their first year.”
