Ryan: Hard work paying off

WARRIORS director of rugby Dean Ryan has hailed the confidence of his players and coaches to keep training and performing well as the catalyst for one of their best ever runs in the top flight.

Speaking after the 21-15 win at Harlequins which sealed Warriors’ third Aviva Premiership victory in a row, Ryan said the spirit shown when results were going against them was key in the recent upsurge in results.

Warriors claimed their second away win of the campaign on Saturday after seeing off a stubborn Harlequins side and took their run of form to four wins from five matches.

With Warriors now 13 points above basement side London Irish, Ryan is relishing the chance to create more breathing space between the two clubs when they visit Sixways on Saturday.

“I’m really pleased for the club. Some people were jumping around when it wasn’t working before Christmas but we stayed confident and kept working,” Ryan said.

“Losing games we should’ve won like the game against Wasps was hard. It’s difficult to go into a changing room with a bunch of young lads who are desperate to win after they’ve lost in the closing stages.

“We just want to keep playing well and trust that will get us through. You have to keep doing your job well, keep supporting each other and keep pushing each other to get better.

“I thought we were great defensively to deprive Harlequins of a try as they’re probably the most dangerous side in the league on a dry day.

“They got a bit frustrated which played into our hands and in the second half we played with decent intent and kept the ball off them.

“We all know we’re trying to take this club in a different direction, so at some stage we’ve got to start rewriting the achievements of the past.

“The hard work doesn’t stop just because we’ve won a few games though, we’re now focused on putting things right against Irish this time around,” he added.

Warriors will look to make it four straight wins in March when they welcome Irish and the BT Sport cameras at 5.30pm.
