Running rugby provides some cheer - fan's view

THE CROWD at Sixways were once again witness to a slow start as Warriors leaked 17 points in just over half an hour.

At this point, a nearby supporter chose to leave, stating he was “bored”. A further converted try followed to leave Worcester trailing 24-3 at half time before the rain came down, which may have triggered others to make an early exit.

I know some fans had chosen the visiting Moscow State Circus for their Saturday afternoon entertainment instead.

However, for the first time at home this season, Worcester chose to run with the ball rather than rely on their kicking game in the second half – and with this came a sense of optimism among the Warriors faithful.

The crowd were then in full voice as two tries in the space of the first fifteen minutes gave Worcester a chance of getting back into the match before a Sale try five minutes later killed the contest.

But this game was never going to be an easy one, with experienced players like Dwayne Peel, Danny Cipriani and Mark Cueto on the field, while Sam Tuitupou, who I think deserved his ten minutes in the sin bin, returned to action.

It was also good to see some new faces showing commitment to the cause in a Warriors shirt ahead of our next league match, which will be another stern test as Exeter Chiefs have been in impressive form in the Heineken Cup.

Hopefully a full house on Friday, November 1 for Worcester’s game against Bath, with discounted tickets to draw more support, will bring the first taste of victory this season.
