WORCESTER Warriors pushed Ealing Trailfinders all the way in a 34-28 defeat against unbeaten league leaders Ealing Trailfinders.

Tries from Hallam Chapman, Alfie Garside, Archie Vanes and Josh Bassett earned the Warriors a bonus point at Sixways Stadium.

And Matt Everard’s side also came away form the game with a losing bonus point as Ealing racked up a 25th successive victory.

The result means Worcester sit fourth in the Champ Rugby table just two points behind Coventry in third.

Warriors made a dream start when Chapman crossed for the game’s first try after just three minutes following a quick-tap penalty.

However, Ealing responded with two quickfire tries as Mike Willemse touched down three minutes later from a driving maul.

And the visitors struck again on 11 minutes when Josh Taylor finished off a well-worked move following a lineout.

Warriors fly-half Billy Twelvetrees then saw yellow after conceding a penalty at the ruck.

And Ealing made the most of the man advantage on 17 minutes as Michael Stronge received a pass from the wing and dotted down.

However, Worcester responded with 14-men just four minutes later as Garside intercepted a pass and raced to the line as Rory Taylor added the extras.

Warriors scored a third try on 33 minutes when Vanes latched onto the back of a driving maul and crossed the line to put Warriors into a four-point lead at the break.

And Bassett crossed just three minutes into the second period to score Worcester’s bonus point try as Twelvetrees kicked a third conversion.

Ealing scored a bonus point try of their own on 55 minutes as Reuben Bird-Tulloch finished in the corner.

And the league leaders eventually reclaimed the lead on 69 minutes when Francis Moore dove over out wide and Rory Scannell converted.

Scannell kicked a penalty at the death to take the game out of Worcester’s reach with Warriors now guaranteed a home quarter-final in the play-offs.

Worcester travel to Coventry on the final day of the season on Saturday, May 9 with kick-off at 3pm at the Nick Newbold Stadium.
