THE new owners of Worcester Warriors and Sixways Stadium will submit ambitious plans to redevelop the ground and surrounding area next month.
Junction 6 Limited, who own the club and stadium, are inviting fans and residents to explore the new proposals after Worcester formally submitted an application to the Rugby Football Union (RFU) to join the new Tier 2 league for the start of the 2025/26 season earlier this month.
The plans seek to enhance Sixways and create new facilities for sport, entertainment, health and wellbeing around the stadium. This includes:
- Redeveloping the North Stand to increase the stadium’s capacity from 11,500 to 12,750. The stand will also include a watch tower viewing platform and a new fan zone area.
- A new 120-bed on-site hotel to boost the Worcestershire economy and encourage city-centre tourism.
- New sporting offers to create destination venue for events and sport for the wider community, including a new medical and sports rehabilitation centre.
- A new, versatile, multifunctional events space capable of hosting conferences, banquets, exhibitions and other special occasions.
- A national centre for esports, catering for the growing video game competition.
- New job opportunities in hospitality, healthcare, and events, while also featuring an adaptable industrial space to cater for and attract businesses to the area.
- Improved transport connections through a new multi-storey car park and enhanced cycle links, with a view to re-introduce shuttle bus services to and from the city centre and rail station on matchdays to serve Sixways.
The club will now consult with the public to view and and provide feedback on the proposals before a planning application is submitted to Wychavon District Council in December 2024.
Worcester Warrioes strategy director, Stephen Vaughan said: “We’re excited to reveal these new plans for Sixways and set the stage for a sustainable future for the club and its supporters.
“These new plans for Sixways, alongside the club’s recent application to Join the RFU’s new Tier 2, demonstrates our aspirations to return to playing competitive rugby for the supporters of the club and the wider Worcestershire community alike.
“Feedback from our fans and local residents is essential in shaping our plans.
“We want to know how we can best meet the needs of the Warriors’ community to create a vibrant destination for sport, entertainment, and wellbeing that benefits everyone.”
An in-person consultation will take place on Tuesday, December 10 from 3pm to 7pm in the East Stand at Sixways.
Members of the public can view the proposals online at: https://sixways.co.uk/redeveloping-sixways/ which will go live at 11am on Monday, December 2 and can also provide feedback via an online survey.
The consultation period will end on Monday, December 16.
