WORCESTER Warriors have paid tribute to former chairman Cecil Duckworth by naming the main stand of their Sixways Stadium home in his honour.
Duckworth helped transform Warriors as he led the club from its amateur roots into a professional era.
His passion and commitment saw the team rise through six divisions as Warriors achieved promotion to the Premiership in 2004.
He acted as chairman of Warriors from 1997 to 2015 before stepping back from the role to become club president.
Duckworth died in November 2020 at the age of 83 and Warriors have now named the east stand of their Sixways home after the club’s former chairman.
Cecil’s wife, Beatrice said: “I know that Cecil, the Duckworth family and all our loyal supporters are delighted to see the Warriors playing again at Sixways.
“We wish all the players, coaches and management the very best for this coming season and the future.”
Warriors executive chairman, Christopher Holland added: “By naming this stand after Cecil, we can pay tribute to a man and a family whose influence is woven into the fabric of Worcester Warriors.
“The new ownership will build on the foundations and values of community, respect, ambition and integrity to ensure that Sixways will continue to be a home for rugby, and a venue where future generations can be inspired.”
Worcester will play their first competitive game since returning to professional rugby against Coventry on Saturday, October 4 at Sixways.
