WORCESTER Warriors have confirmed number eight Khalik Kareem has departed the club early to join Bristol Bears on loan until the end of the season.
Kareem had already agreed to join the PREM Rugby side next season after impressing for Warriors in Champ Rugby this campaign.
However, with Kareem now ruled out with a foot injury until the end of the season, Warriors have allowed the forward to join Bristol early in order to complete his rehabilitation ahead of joining the Bears permanently in the summer.
Warriors head coach, Matt Everard said: “Due to the nature of his injury keeping him out till the end of the season, we felt it was important for Khalik to integrate within his new club as soon as possible and get a head start next season as he rehabilitates from injury.
“It’s a great opportunity for him to bed in to their environment and build relationships with the players and staff.
“As a club, we are so proud of Khalik’s development this season, and we are excited to see how he grows at Bristol next year.”
“We’re grateful for the Bears’ cooperation with this and look forward to continuing the strong working relationship.”
The 21-year-old has scored three tries in 15 appearances for Everard’s side this campaign.
Bristol director of rugby, Pat Lam added: “It’s been great to welcome Khalik into the Bears family ahead of his permanent switch in the summer, as he rehabilitates from injury.
“It’s a great opportunity to integrate him into our environment and build strong relationships with the players, alongside working hard with our medical and athletic performance teams on his recovery, as we look to get him fit and firing for next season.
“We have a strong working relationship with Worcester and we’re grateful for their cooperation in allowing Khalik to join up with the squad early, enabling him to settle into his new surroundings and begin his rehab with our medical team.”
