Rugby round-up: Wanderers return to winning ways

AN ACCOMPLISHED display from Worcester Wanderers’ forwards laid the foundation for an impressive 45-5 victory over an in-form Kenilworth RFC.

The hosts’ pack proved to be the difference as they dominated the scrum and the line-out to sweep the Warwickshire opponents aside.

James Gunter was the first to benefit from a well-controlled drive as he powered over before Jake Saddington and Mike Dodge crossed the whitewash.

Kenilworth got one back before the break, but when Chris Jenkinson touched down moments later, the game was all but won.

After withstanding some pressure at the start of the second half, Wanderers powered to victory, with Chris Griffiths and Jenkinson going over. Olly Meadows completed the scoring from tee.

WORCESTER Ladies overcame a heavy pitch at Wasps to come away with a 12-8 victory which extends their winning run to three.

There was nothing between two sides before Worcester gifted the hosts a try with an intercepted pass at the start of the second half.

The visitors continued to press and played some excellent running rugby despite the conditions, with Megan Goddard and Ceri Large. And it was the pair who turned the game around for Worcester.

Large got the away side on the board before Goddard beat several defenders to score and give Worcester the lead for the first time. Goddard added the extras to set up a tense final ten minutes before Worcester claimed a well-deserved win.

WARRIORS duo Agustin Creevy and Leonardo Senatore helped steer Argentina to a memorable 18-13 victory over France in Paris at the weekend.

Captain Creevy was the star man as his Argentina side kicked four drop goals and two penalties to secure the win over Les Bleus.

The defeat was France’s first at home against the Pumas since the 2007 Rugby World Cup.
