Rugby round-up: Large steers Ladies to Sixways success

WORCESTER Ladies gave the Sixways crowd something to savour as they produced a dazzling display to beat Aylesford Bulls 48-12 on Saturday.

Dave Guest’s side, who were making their second appearance at Warriors’ home ground this season, ran in eight tries to secure an emphatic victory which propels them to fifth in the Women’s Premiership table.

Aylesford looked to use their heavier pack to good effect at the set piece but Worcester’s more expansive style quickly overcame the pressure with a brace from Ceri Large and a further try from Kelly Smith.

The visitors responded late in the first with a try from Sarah Riordan, which Taylor Kinsey converted.

However, the second half saw the home side drive home their superiority with two more tries for Large and another for Smith while Bianca Blackburn and Nicola Gross also got on the scoresheet.

UPTON progressed to the quarter-finals of the Midlands Vase after a spirited second half performance saw them overcome Willenhall 17-13.

An early penalty from Dan Hart gave the hosts the lead, but it was Willenhall who were dominating the opening stages and they soon made it count when they scored a well-worked try in the corner.

Upton were not helped by their indiscipline as Matt Glading saw yellow before the visitors struck again to make it 10-3.

They increased their advantage with a penalty just before the break, but as the match wore on, Upton’s superior fitness level began to tell.

Dan Keyte scythed through the midfield before feeding Alex Flower to score on the hour mark. Hart added the extras.

Upton remained on the front foot and they finished the game off when Max Macfarlane brushed aside two tacklers to go in under the posts to leave a simple conversion for Hart.
