RGS WORCESTER’S rugby teams have got off to a spectacular start this season with an impressive 34 victories in 41 matches played.
Building on a rewarding pre-season and senior rugby tour to South Africa, the sides have shown remarkable depth, resilience, and skill across all year groups.
Three RGS teams have progressed to the second round of the National Cup competitions, highlighting the season’s early accomplishments.
The under-14s team had a particularly impressive win over King’s School, Worcester, in challenging weather conditions and the under-15s earned a hard-fought win against Malvern College.
At RGS Worcester, the smooth transition from junior rugby in the lower school (years seven and eight) into senior rugby is evident.
All year nine teams are so far unbeaten.
The senior 1st XV team has also established itself as a formidable competitor, winning four out of their first five matches. These have included two thrilling victories over King’s Gloucester and Christ College Brecon.
The under-16s have adapted well to the elevated level of competition with several players making meaningful contributions to the 1st and 2nd XV teams.
Head of rugby, Rob Lewis, said: “Starting the season so strongly speaks volumes about the dedication and talent of our players and coaches. Our time in South Africa was invaluable, providing excellent preparation and bonding for the season.
“We are optimistic about the progress each team can achieve.”
The excellent rugby programme, delivered to pupils through rugby specialist coaches who have a wealth of playing and coaching experience with every age group exposed to their expertise and enthusiasm.
Player safety is considered paramount with the pupils in year seven starting their rugby experience by playing other forms of the game, including touch rugby and ‘Hugby’.
As RGS Worcester’s rugby season continues, the players, coaches, and school community look forward to further accomplishments.
