A FORMER RGS Worcester pupil is hoping to remain on target for a podium place in the shooting World Championships after gaining a place on the Junior England DTL shooting team
Following a rigorous selection process earlier this year, 19-year-old Jack Ruane (pictured) moved a step closer to his ambition of a podium place at the championships to be held in the north of England in 2020.
Down The Line (DTL) clay pigeon shooting is a variation of trap shooting and competitors use a double barrelled shot gun and are allowed to fire both barrels at a single target released on the traditional call of ‘pull’.
The competition took place last weekend at Mid Wales Shooting ground, against teams from Ireland, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales and not only did Ruane win junior High Gun but also won overall High Gun against some of Home Nations’ best shooters.
He also won Junior High Gun over two days, High Gun ‘New Cap’, Junior High Gun for England and High Gun ‘New Cap’ England.
Ruane started shooting competitively at the age of 15 and despite a knee injury and travelling hundreds of miles commuting backwards and forwards to university to train and compete, the achievement of taking the Home International title made it all worthwhile.
