FULL back Chris Pennell came off the bench to score his first try for his country as England clinched a 38-7 win over Super 15 side Crusaders.

The 27-year-old was thrown on with 20 minutes remaining and Pennell did not take long to make his mark as he set up England’s fifth try before denying Jordan Taufua a certain score with a last ditch tackle.

The Sixways star then capped off a fine performance with a try when he latched onto a Brad Barritt kick to score.

It also wrapped up an impressive display from Stuart Lancaster’s side, who quickly moved 12-0 in front thanks to tries from Joe Gray and Ben Foden.

Crusaders responded with a Matt Todd try converted by Tom Taylor but England bounced back with two quick scores from Barritt and Alex Goode.

Cipriani again added the conversions to make it 26-7 at the break.

England found themselves under some pressure in the second period but managed to thwart the Super 15 side before Pennell was brought into action.

The Warriors academy graduate, who made his international debut in the first Test against the All Blacks, made an immediate impression as he sent Watson over for England’s fifth.

Pennell, who was nominated for the Aviva Premiership Player of the Season, then gave Lancaster further food for thought ahead of the final test on Saturday when he crossed the whitewash in the dying seconds of the encounter in Christchurch.
