WARRIORS full back Chris Pennell admitted the performance against Wasps was not acceptable and the team needed to regain the confidence which sparked a record-breaking four wins in a row.
The Worcester-born star, who played the full 80 minutes and had 15 carries in Warriors’ 54-35 defeat to Wasps on Saturday, believes his side have a lot to work on after they were ‘too soft’ at restraining their opponent’s forward pack.
But the academy graduate insists the Sixways side, who have another weekend off, just need their confidence back before they end the campaign against Leicester Tigers on April 30 and Saracens at home on April 7.
“It was a massively disappointing game to play in,” he said.
“We need to look at ourselves in the mirror and figure out why we came out and played the way we did in the first half and why we were so hesitant.
“We need to get better at being aggressive and imposing our game right from the start.
“We knew Wasps would be dangerous from all over the park, so we went into the game wanting to pin them down into their half, but we were too soft and let them out too often.
“It’s not acceptable. They picked us off very well in the first half but I think both teams showed ambition in the second period.
“From a neutral perspective it was probably a good game to watch, but ultimately it wasn’t a good shift for us conceding another 50 points in a game.
“I think this can be an easy fix though. We just have to get back to being confident and getting off the line.
“Overall I think we still may have been a bit bruised from the Exeter result. We need to quickly move on as we’re coming up against two top sides in a couple of weeks.
“Although we now have another week off, we’ve got a lot of things to work on, especially getting our confidence back in defence.
“We have two more chances this season to go out and show what we’re about,” he added.
