Pears' partnership with Blackfinch Investments comes to early end

WORCESTERSHIRE CCC’s ‘six-figure’ sponsorship deal with Blackfinch Investments has been terminated two years early amid the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic.

After welcoming the firm as shirt sleeve sponsor in 2016, Pears chiefs inked a five-year deal in November 2017 to become the club’s main sponsor and rename their historic New Road base as ‘Blackfinch New Road’.

At the time, the club’s former chief executive Tom Scott said the deal would net the Pears an ‘annual six figure sum’ and was hailed as a huge statement of intent.

But the link-up has been cut-short two years ahead of schedule amid a difficult time for multiple industries due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

With immediate effect, the club’s ground will revert back to being known at New Road.

The Rapids won the Vitality Blast in 2018 for the first time in their history and again reached the Vitality Blast final last year, only to be edged out by Essex Eagles in the last ball of the competition.

Fanos Hira, chairman of Worcestershire CCC, said: “We would like to thank Blackfinch for their support over the last four years and wish them well in the future.”

Blackfinch’s CEO and founder Richard Cook added: “We would like to thank WCCC for a great four years of sponsorship.

“We have had some fantastic times at Blackfinch New Road and wish them the best of luck for the upcoming season and in the future.”

Further information on sponsors for the 2021 season will follow in due course.
