One of the worst pitches I have played on - Jackman

EXPERIENCED midfielder Danny Jackman admitted the Aggborough surface Worcester City and Hednesford Town had to endure yesterday (Friday) was ‘probably the worst he’s played on’.

The Boxing Day encounter had 75 minutes on the clock with the hosts trailing 3-0 when referee Andy Hendley finally called a halt to proceedings.

Constant rain and snow had caused problems on the pitch, which represented more of a mud bath at times, all afternoon and when Tyler Weir made a burst down the right with 15 minutes remaining the ball held up one too many times and Hendley stopped the action.

But Jackman, who joined City at the start of this season from landlords Kidderminster Harriers, said he was surprised it lasted as long as it did.

“It was absolutely terrible,” he said. “You could tell from an early stage it was never going to last the game.

“I spoke to the referee just as we came out for the second half and he said give it ten minutes, but I thought it is only going to get worse, so it was a strange one to play as long as he did as anyone could it was never going to be finished.”

The 31-year-old did, however, have sympathy for Hednesford after a Graham Hutchison own-goal and quick-fire strikes from Richard Batchelor and Glenn Walker looked to be ending the Blue and Whites unbeaten home league record this season.

“We didn’t play the conditions well enough,” he added. “They got the better of the conditions, we were perhaps a little naive to the conditions in the way we played.

“It is a learning curve for us we have got a lot of youngsters but we get away unscathed luckily.

“To do all that work and get 3-0 up against us, full credit to them.

“As I say they played the conditions much better than we did, luck was on our side and we’ve managed to get away with one.”
