Olivier: We must keep penalty count down

Worcester Editorial 8th Mar, 2017   0

Wynand Olivier insists Warriors will continue to improve if they cut out their ‘big repetitive errors’ and concentrate for the full 80 minutes.

The Springbok centre admitted despite the mauling of Bristol in their last Aviva Premiership outing and the recent 24-18 scalp of high-flying Saracens, the Sixways side still continue to ‘let themselves down’ with bad discipline.

The former Super Rugby player with the Bulls believes keeping their penalty count down is key.

“Our problem this season has been consistency. We start and finish games well, but there’s a period on ten to 15 minutes in between where we let ourselves down with bad discipline,” said Olivier.

“Those lapses of big repetitive errors cost us. Conceding tries in that fashion isn’t helping us. We need to keep our concentration consistent for the full 80 minutes.

“We’re trying to work hard on keeping penalties down to a minimum.

“If you’re playing in the right area of the pitch and not conceding penalties, then it gives you the advantage. If we can stick to that game plan we’ll improve.

“Obviously playing four Premiership games on the bounce gives you continuity, but we can go into this break with a bit of breathing space now.”
