Olivier backs Warriors to test Wasps

WARRIORS centre Wynand Olivier believes the club’s recent run of form will stand them in good stead going into the much-anticipated encounter against rivals Wasps.

The club host the Aviva Premiership high-flyers in their first ever ‘Midlands’ clash at Sixways this Saturday, which the South African international is relishing.

The 2007 Rugby World Cup-winning Springbok played the full 80 minutes of Warriors’ agonising 32-22 loss against Wasps in Coventry back in January, when they led the game until the final two minutes.

The 32-year-old, who joined Warriors from French Top 14 side Montpellier in October 2015, also insists the players will give their all for the ‘fantastic’ supporters in the club’s final three Premiership games.

“We had a couple of misfortunes at the beginning of the season and struggled to close games out, but in the last couple of months we’ve forced a turnaround in results and I think that’s from the team stepping up and learning from our mistakes,” said Olivier.

“I think personally, just like the team, I got off to a slow start entering the campaign, but I’ve adapted quite well and I’m feeling more comfortable now.

“Where we are now still isn’t perfect and we’re working very hard to keep moving forward and progress further up the table. Hopefully in these last three games we can give the supporters something to shout about.

“I’m looking forward to going out against Wasps and enjoying the occasion. It should be a special atmosphere and I’m relishing the challenge,” he added.

The former Bulls player, who recently signed a new contract in February, is confident Warriors are heading in the right direction and believes they have all the right credentials to push on to become an established top flight Premiership side.

“I’ve really enjoyed my time at Warriors and everyone has helped me to fit in,” he said.

“It was an easy decision to make in pledging my future to the club as I’m enjoying being a part of the growth here. We have great culture and all the foundations are in place for us to kick on and become a successful Premiership side.

“I want to keep experiencing the upward curve we’re creating and I hope we can continue our recent run of performances in our last three games,” he added.

Warriors’ clash against Wasps kicks off at 3pm.
