Mills: Were driven to make things right

Worcester Editorial 18th Jan, 2017   0

VERSATILE back Ryan Mills is determined to be involved in Warriors’ upcoming crucial fixtures at either centre or fly-half following his return from long-term injury.

The former Exeter Chiefs and Gloucester player, who underwent surgery after suffering a groin injury in pre-season, has featured in six of Warriors’ last nine games in the Aviva Premiership and European Challenge Cup in both the number ten and 12 jersey.

The 24-year-old is itching to ‘control and influence’ the Sixways outfit’s tail end of the campaign as they look to steer clear of basement side Bristol.

“It’s been a tough time at the club. You come in on the Monday and self analyse and self critic what went wrong and how you could’ve done better. You’ve got to be hard on yourself,” said the former England under-18 and 20 player.

“But we always get behind each other and are driven to make things right at the weekend. I want to right some of those wrongs (against Enisei-STM).

“It’s great to be back after picking up a groin injury in preseason. I thought it wasn’t that serious, but I ended up being out for almost six months which was very frustrating.

“But I’ve since had an operation and feel fully fit and ready to go. No matter how the coach wants to use me in matches, I’m happy to play my part.

“I like being able to control games and influence them, so whether I play at ten or 12, not a lot changes for me. I’m enjoying my rugby, especially on our artificial pitch as it’s geared up to how we want to play.

“I think we’ve played well in all our home games and been able to put a brand of rugby on the pitch that suits what we’re good at.

“We’ve been in this (Premiership) position before, the only difference is we have a better squad than last year, so we just need to up our consistency and the performances will come,” he added.
