Lockdown halts clubs’ seasons

Worcester Editorial 5th Nov, 2020   0

CLUB bosses at Worcester City and Worcester Raiders will have their seasons halted after the Government announced a second national lockdown.

All clubs below National League North and South will have their seasons interrupted for the duration of the lockdown until at least December 2.

The Midland Premier Division, West Midlands Regional Premier Division and the Hellenic League all saw a delayed start to the campaign and now face a fixture backlog with a month of the proposed season set to be wiped out.

City have not taken to the field since October 17 after a number of the first team squad and backroom staff tested positive for Coronavirus.

The postponed games against Racing Club Warwick, Haughmond and Boldmere St Michaels have all been rearranged but it is now unclear whether the revised dates will still apply post-lockdown.

In a statement earlier this week, City confirmed all those who had tested positive were on the mend ahead of the next scheduled fixture at Claines Lane on November 14 when Boldmere were set to be the visitors.

Raiders have made a stunning start to life in their new Sixways home and currently sit top of the West Midlands Regional Premier with six wins and a draw from their first seven games.
