FT: Worcester City 2-1 Leamington

Worcester Editorial 15th Nov, 2014 Updated: 19th Oct, 2016   0

LIVE updates from our man at Aggborough, Jonny Bonell, where Worcester City are back in Vanarama Conference North action against Leamington.

The live update has now finished.

It wasn’t the prettiest victory Worcester will secure this season, but it is another three points nonetheless. Two goals in four second half minutes, From Nick Wright and Graham Hutchison, were enough to see off a plucky Leamington side, who pulled a goal back through Danny Newton with just three minutes to go. The result means Carl Heeley’s men stretch their unbeaten record in all competitions to a staggering ten games. Thanks for following today.

FULL-TIME: Worcester City 2-1 Leamington

3 minutes of added time.

More on goal: Captain Morley whipped in another delivery from the right which this time was met by a Leamington man as Newton arrived at the back-post to head home.

87min: GOAL: Worcester City 2-1 Leamington – Danny Newton

85min: Moore’s ball finds captain Morley inside the box but he drills an effort across the face of goal and behind. Lee Moore on for Lee Chilton and Aaron Wint comes on for Matt Dodd in Leamington’s final changes.

More on goal: Geddes and Deeney stood over a free-kick on the right, both ran over the ball before Geddes cleverly whipped a ball to the front post and Hutchison flicked the ball through Morch’s legs.

80min: GOAL: Worcester City 2-0 Leamington – Graham Hutchison

More on goal: The resulting corner wasn’t cleared by the Leamington back-line and Wright was on hand to divert the ball home to put Worcester ahead.

76min: GOAL: Worcester City 1-0 Leamington – Nick Wright

75min: Great chance for City to open the scoring. Murphy charged into the box to receive a Wright through-ball. Morch came out at his feet to deny the substitute but the follow up fell to Gater whose follow up was tipped behind.

71min: A long ball into the box causes havoc in the City box and the ball bounces at Newton’s feet who smashes wide. Tristian Dunkley is brought on for Nti in City’s last change of the afternoon.

66min: Murphy already in the thick of the action as he releases Wright down the right and his cross is expertly cleared behind by Tank with Nti lurking in the box. Corner comes to nothing.

62min: SUB: Jordan Murphy and Connor Gater come on for Mike Symons and Danny Jackman respectively.

61min: Yellow card: Edwards goes in the book for Leamington as Deeney burst through on the counter and was brought down by the midfielder.

57min: Free-kick is whipped in by Morley and somehow  missed by Newton and then Mace. Real chance that for Leamington.

56min: A lack of quality at the start of the second period. Dodd wins a free-kick off Weir, who is booked, after Nti gave the winger the ball.

51min: City do have their first opportunity of the half and it’s Williams who delivers a great ball from the right which Nti heads just wide. Great work from Symons on the edge of the box then creates another opportunity for Williams who cuts in from the right and smashes his effort wide.

49min: Weir gives the ball away cheaply on the edge of the box. Chilton first to the ball but scuffs his shot wide. Leamington certainly started the half strongly.

Attendance: 859

Players are back out here and the second half is underway.

– The FA Cup heroes haven’t quite lived up to the billing so far today. After a quiet opening first 15 minutes George Williams had the best chance of the game but blasted his effort straight at Matt Morch. Danny Jackman then fired a deflected effort just past the post. Stefan Moore has looked by far Leamington’s biggest threat having been denied a couple of times by Nathan Vaughan.

Half-time: Worcester City 0-0 Leamington

5 minutes added time.

44min: Deeney has a go from fully 30-yards with a free-kick. The captains effort, however, is far too strong and sails over the top.

38min: Another great cross from Weir is headed to the edge of the box by Symons to the on-rushing Jackman whose volley is deflected wide for a corner. The corner is punched clear by Morch.

34min: Being told its Goddard down. He is being lifted on to a stretcher and taken off the pitch. Applause around the ground for the defender and James Mace is brought on to replace him.

33min: A break in play as a Leamington player is lay on the deck on the far side. Trainers surround the player at the moment so can’t actually see who it is. Looks slightly worrying.

28min: After a slight lull in play Williams has City’s best chance of the game. Wright split the defence and played in the marauding full-back whose initial shot was straight at Morch before Williams headed the rebound but was once more denied.

20min: City go close this time as more good play from Williams down the right found Nti in the box but his shot is blocked by a well-organised defence.

17min: Moore wins another corner for the visitors and the resulting delivery is headed off the line by Hutchison. Closest we have come to a goal so far.

14min: Yellow card: Moore has just wildly slices over the bar but does win a free-kick off Rowe on the far side. The defender subsequently picks up the first booking of the game. Free-kick comes to nothing.

11min: Former City winger Dodd gets o the byline and stands up a cross which Newton stoops to head but gets his angles all wrong and it goes harmlessly past Vaughan’s post.

7min: Worcester make a quick breakaway and it is Nti who leads the charge, he feeds Williams down the right and his low cross is just behind Symons whose waiting in the box.

3min: First chance of the game falls City’s way and it’s Williams whose cross finds Symons. The striker powers a header but can’t quite direct it on target.

1min: Large crowd at Aggborough today and a decent atmosphere to start the game.
