FT: Gloucester City 2-0 Worcester City

Worcester Editorial 18th Jan, 2015 Updated: 19th Oct, 2016   0

LIVE updates from our man at Whaddon Road, Jonny Bonell, where Worcester City continue their Vanarama Conference North campaign against arch-rivals Gloucester City.

The live update has now finished.

Gloucester full value for the three points here after a lackluster display from Carl Heeley’s side. Nathan Modest had the hosts ahead at half-time with a scrappy opener before a Billy Jones penalty secured all three points. Worcester offered very little going forward and have now gone over 500 minutes without finding the back of the net. Thanks for following today.

FULL-TIME: GLOUCESTER CITY 2-0 WORCESTER CITY

90min: SUB: Griffin comes on for White for Gloucester. Modest also replaced by James.

4 minutes added time

89min: Modest receives the ball on the edge of the box but lashes his effort past the post.

86min: SUB: Orenuga comes off for Connolly in Gloucester’s first change.

84min: Taylor seems to be hobbling up front for Worcester. All three subs have already been made.

81min: Gloucester going for number three here. Orenuga’s delivery put behind by Haynes. Corner comes to nothing.

78min: Yellow card: Geddes the next man into the book for a rash challenge on Knowles.

75min: Haynes hits an effort from 30-yards which bounces just in front of Paul White but the keeper gets his body behind it well.

73min: Wright again whips a good ball in which Taylor can only head behind. Nti comes off for Dunkley in Worcester’s final change.

71min: Wright works a bit of space on the right but his fierce cross goes straight through and out for a goal-kick.

More on goal: A swift counter for the hosts saw Orenuga burst into the box and pushed the ball round Vaughan, who cycnically brought him down. Jones then stepped up and confidently sent Vaughan the wrong way.

67min: Gloucester City 2-0 Worcester City – Billy Jones (P)

67min: PENALTY GLOUCESTER – Vaughan trips Orenuga in the box. Yellow card for Vaughan.

64min: Closest Worcester have come. Nti got the ball in the right corner and played it back to Haynes, the right-back put a decent ball into the front post which Wright got a foot on but put it just wide.

59min: Orenuga attempts to turn Khan in the box but the defender gets a vital foot on the ball to divert it behind for a corner. Corner comes to nothing.

57min: SUB: Geddes and Taylor come on for Gater and Symons.

55min: Gloucester on top again here and Orenuga looks dangerous down the right hand side but he overhits his pass which goes straight out for a goal-kick.

53min: Yellow card: Gater is the first man to have his name taken for a cynical tackle on captain Harris.

50min: Neat play between Nti and Jackman finds Gater in space outside the box but the midfielder slices his effort high and very wide.

47min: Gloucester controlling the possession at the start of the second period. Worcester failing to get out their own half currently.

The players are back out and the second half is underway.

Attendance: 804

– Relegation-threatened Gloucester have had more about them in a cagey opening 45 minutes here at Whaddon Road. A scrappy goal from Nathan Modest ten minutes before the break is the difference between the two sides in an otherwise unforgettable first half.

HALF TIME: GLOUCESTER CITY 1-0 WORCESTER CITY

1 minute added time.

43min: Worcester getting closer here as Deeney drives at the heart of the Gloucester defence and drives an effort from 25-yards which flies just past the far post.

38min: Closest Worcester have come to a goal. Nti bends his 25-yard free-kick just past the near post.

37min: Worcester all over the place at the minute. Vaughan attempts to catch a routine ball and fumbles it behind for a corner. The Worcester keeper then awarded a free-kick from the resulting delivery.

More on goal: That goal just about sums of the quality of this game so far. Knowles scuffed a shot from the edge of the box which was deflected on by White and it fell perfectly to Modest who hit a downward volley past Vaughan.

35min: GOAL: Gloucester City 1-0 Worcester City – Nathan Modest

32min: Gater finds Nti in space on the right and the forward attempts an early cross which is deflected behind. Corner fails to beat the first man and is cleared.

28min: Cross-come-shot from Knowles takes a slight knick and bounces just past the post. Delivery is met by Harris but his downward header is comfortably saved.

27min: Deeney plays in Wright on the edge of the box, he tries a clever flick for the on-rushing Nti but there is too much on it and it runs straight through to the keeper.

25min: Very scrappy game at present, neither team really able to gain a foothold in proceedings as White fails to win a free-kick off Khan.

20min: Best chance of the game so far, along with the best move. Knowles plays a neat one-two with White and curls an effort from outside the box which is well held by Vaughan.

18min: Deeney pumps that delivery into the area and Symons climbs highest but directs his header well wide.

17min: Webb does well down the right hand side and puts in a good ball which Vaughan has to tip away. Haynes then halts Hall’s progress and sends Wright away to win a free-kick for Worcester.

15min: Worcester starting to control the possession now but the game is being constantly interrupted by a whistle-happy John Busby. Gater has a chance to break for the visitors but he misplaces his pass.

11min: Khan is brought down by Orenuga midway through the Gloucester half but Jackman’s delivery is poor and goes straight out for a goal-kick.

7min: Jones puts in another testing corner which Vaughan fumbles but the ball is eventually hacked away.

5min: Gloucester seeing the majority of the ball early on, no clear-cut chances as of yet.

2min: Jones whips a good corner into the Worcester box and Avery rises unchallenged but glances his header wide.

1min: Gloucester get us underway from left to right in their traditional yellow and black. City playing in their green away colours.
