Lamb dropped as Ryan shifts Mills to fly half

MERCURIAL fly half Ryan Lamb has been dropped to the bench as Worcester Warriors look to Ryan Mills to steer them to victory over Moseley at Billesley Common tomorrow (Saturday, 3pm)

Lamb has started Warriors’ last four games in the number ten jersey, including their 62-26 thrashing of Cornish Pirates last weekend.

But director of rugby Dean Ryan has decided to shake things up as he has offered Mills, who has made seven appearances at centre, the chance to shine at stand-off.

The 22-year-old will partner scrum half Jonny Arr, who retains his place, at half back while the other notable change sees Worcester’s try-scorer Sam Smith return on the wing.

GJ Van Velze is still away having got married in South Africa last week, which means Jonathan Thomas will continue to captain Warriors, who have won their last 11 games in the Greene King IPA Championship.

The visitors will be looking to secure a fourth victory over local rivals Moseley this season having defeated them twice in the British & Irish Cup as well as in the league.

But Ryan said he has urged his players to be in the right mindset when they take to the field against the Birmingham side.

“One of the challenges of the Championship is getting things right week to week,” he said.

“We’ve got to prepare for the run-in to the end of the season. We have to make sure all aspects of our game are moving at the same progress.

“We saw what the backline is capable of last weekend. We’ve got a lot of pace and there are a lot of guys now who are really sharp at handling and if we get the right delivery of ball than they can show how dangerous they can be.

“We’ve seen an indicator of what we’re capable of and therefore I’d strive to be there more often.

“I’ve been really pleased with the senior players that are driving things forward. We’re at the stage now where I want to see that level of performance have more consistency.”

Warriors’ side to face Moseley: Pennell, Smith, Stelling, Symons, Biggs, Mills, Arr, Bower, Creevy, Schonert, Williams, O’Shea, Thomas (C), Betty, Senatore

Replacements: George, Rapava Ruskin, Rees, De Carpentier, Mulchrone, Lamb, Howard
