Lack of discipline cost us - Heeley

CARL Heeley has slammed the lack of discipline his Worcester City side showed in their disappointing 1-0 defeat at Tamworth yesterday (Sunday).

The Blue and Whites boss highlighted a series of ‘stupid’ free-kicks given away by the visitors, with one set-piece resulting in the only goal of the game.

Lamb’s skipper Paul Green prodded home Brendon Daniels’ delivery with just 19 minutes left after Wayne Thomas had needlessly scythed down Green by the touchline.

Heeley said: “You don’t give it away (the free-kick) the boy is going nowhere, he is going into the corner.

“When you talk about having discipline you have to stay on your feet there and just send him back but it was lazy legs being thrown about so they had free balls into our box.

“The number we gave away it was inevitable there was going to be a chance off one of them and it proved to be the case.”

City’s unbeaten eight-game league record did come to an end at the expense of Tamworth’s own seven-game winning run, but Heeley felt there was nothing to choose between the two sides.

“In the second half we stopped passing the ball and persisted in giving stupid free-kick after stupid free-kick away,” he added.

“It was the only way I felt Tamworth would score, we kept inviting the ball into our box, doing it again and again and again and eventually we got punished.

“That is disappointing and it is sloppiness from us.

“They were rash, stupid fouls so on that score we probably got we what deserved but we have to be kicking ourselves that we haven’t made more of the possession we had, certainly in the first period, and worked the goalkeeper more.”
