Kirwan: Mid-table finish wouldn't be over-achievement

FLANKER Carl Kirwan insists a mid-table finish wouldn’t be an over-achievement, despite Warriors’ poor run of form.

The Durham-born back-row expressed his frustration with the ‘silly errors’ which have seen Warriors win just one of ten Aviva Premiership matches, but is adamant the club is moving in the right direction.

Warriors’ next Premiership outing is a Boxing Day clash with basement side Bristol, who sit just six points below the Sixways outfit, and Kirwan believes a win would be a massive step in securing the club’s Premiership status.

“It’s been a very stop-start season so far. We need to get some good performances under our belt, which hopefully will lead to wins,” said the former London Welsh skipper.

“The Premiership is very tight this year as it always is, and I believe anyone can beat anyone on their day. Every team has put a marker down and shown how they can perform.

“There’s no doubt we feel 100 per cent frustrated with how results have went against us.

“We haven’t been able to come away with the points we feel we deserve.

“Silly errors have cost us, but we need to get some wins on the board and our next game (Bristol) gives us an opportunity to open the gap even more. It could not only secure our place in the Premiership, but take the pressure off us a bit too, so we can play more of our own rugby.

“We need that ooze of confidence as we know we can be better. A mid-table finish wouldn’t be an over-achievement.

“There’s a lot of room for improvement, but we’re moving in the right direction.”
