Kirwan: I can't wait to play alongside new signings

EXPERIENCED flanker Carl Kirwan says he is relishing the chance to play alongside the club’s ‘exciting’ new signings ahead of the 2016/17 campaign.

The 6ft 3in forward believes the arrivals of England centre Ben Te’o, Kiwi centre Jackson Willison, lock Will Spencer and hooker Matt Williams will be fantastic additions to the Sixways outfit.

The Durham-born player, who scored two tries last season, is also itching to play on the club’s new artificial grass pitch which is being installed this Friday.

“From what we’ve seen of Te’o he’s an exciting player who can definitely add something to the side,” said the 25-year-old Kirwan.

“As for Will Spencer, I’ve played alongside him at London Welsh so I know how good a player he is. All of them will be able to add a lot to the environment and drive the squad forward.

“The new surface will also mean a quicker game and will be more exciting to watch. It’ll certainly benefit the likes of Cooper Vuna and Bryce Heem who will have a field day on it.

“I don’t think it’ll change things too much though. We’ll be looking to hit the ground running when we get the new campaign under way and we’re looking forward to it.”

Kirwan has also stressed he won’t be treating himself too much before the pre-season tour to Jersey and Ireland in August.

“There’s a short off-season this time round so you don’t want to get too fat and unfit,” he added.

“I’m off to Thailand for a little break but there comes a point when you do a bit of panic training.

“I haven’t made too many plans this summer though, as before you know it we’ll be back in for pre-season.”
